What’s inside
Two parts, plus a cover, an instructions slide, a contents page and a closing page.
The difference
| Usually covers | Best for | |
|---|---|---|
| Brand guidelines | Strategy and visuals: positioning, voice, logo, colour and type | Anyone who creates for the brand |
| Brand style guide | Visual and editorial rules: logo, colour, type, imagery, grammar | Designers and writers |
| Brand book | The story and values, often more inspirational | Teams, partners and new hires |
This template is a full set of brand guidelines, so it works as a style guide or brand book too. Delete the sections you don’t need.
Step by step
Write your positioning, audience and promise first.
Choose three words the brand is and three it is not, then write sample sentences.
Every version in vector format (SVG, EPS or PDF) plus PNGs for everyday use.
Exact HEX, RGB and CMYK values, and a Pantone reference if you print.
Sizes, weights and line heights for each heading level and body text.
Real examples: website, social posts, business cards, presentations.
Export a PDF, keep the source files in one shared folder, set a yearly review date.
Avoid these
Rules about logos can’t tell anyone what to say.
Explain why, and people apply the rules to cases the document never covered.
A 90-page PDF nobody opens protects nothing.
Showing what not to do is often clearer than describing what to do.

A document that defines how a brand is presented everywhere: what it stands for, how it speaks, and how its logo, colours, fonts and images are used. They let anyone who creates for the brand produce work that looks and sounds like the same company.
At minimum: positioning, voice, logo rules, colour palette, typography, imagery and who owns the brand. The template covers all of them in 13 sections.
Long enough to answer the questions people actually ask. For most small and mid-sized brands that is 15 to 30 pages.
Review them once a year, and whenever your positioning, audience, offer or visual identity changes. Keep a version history so everyone knows which edition is current.
Only if you tick the box to get occasional emails about branding. Either way, your download is ready on the page as soon as you submit, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Done for you
A template organises what you know. It can’t decide your positioning for you. The Alchemy Foundation™ includes positioning, a full visual identity and brand guidelines, from $3,500.
