How long a rebrand takes

The rebranding timeline depends almost entirely on scope.

ScopeTypical timelineWhat changes
Brand refreshAbout 3 weeksVisual update on an unchanged strategy
Positioning & identityAbout 3 weeksNew positioning, messaging and visual identity
Rebrand with websiteAbout 6 weeksPositioning, identity and a new website
Complete transformation8–10 weeksWebsite, content system and full rollout

Avoid these

5 rebranding mistakes that cost the most

  • Starting with the logo. Design without positioning produces a new look for the same problem.
  • Redirecting everything to the homepage. It throws away the ranking of every page you had. Map each URL individually.
  • Launching in stages. Half the touchpoints on the old brand and half on the new reads as disorganisation.
  • Announcing the logo, not the reason. Clients care what changes for them. Lead with that.
  • Stopping at launch. The first 90 days are when broken links, old assets and lost rankings show up.

Rebranding checklist FAQ

What should a rebranding checklist include?

Seven phases: deciding whether to rebrand, auditing what you have, positioning, creating the identity and messaging, preparing the website and assets, launching, and protecting the brand in the first 90 days. Most checklists stop at launch — the website redirects and the post-launch monitoring are where rebrands actually lose value.

How long does a rebrand take?

A brand refresh takes about three weeks, and so does new positioning with a visual identity. Adding a website brings it to about six weeks, and a complete transformation with a content system and full rollout takes eight to ten weeks.

Will a rebrand hurt my Google rankings?

Not if the website is handled properly. Keep URLs unchanged where you can, map a 301 redirect from every changed URL to its closest new equivalent, update titles and schema, and monitor Search Console weekly for the first 90 days. Rankings are lost when every old page is redirected to the homepage, or redirects are skipped entirely.

How do you announce a rebrand?

Tell your team first, then your best clients personally, then publish. Lead with why the brand changed and what it means for clients rather than with the new logo, and switch every touchpoint on the same day.

How much does a rebrand cost?

For a founder-led or service business, rebranding starts at around $3,500 for positioning and a complete visual identity, and runs to $15,000 and beyond with a website and content system. The rebranding services page sets out what’s included.
